*** The State We're In - Midweek Edition ***

This week we go to China's earthquake-stricken Sichuan province and ask why a disproportionate number of victims were children.

In our focus on the right to fight we speak with Sam Sheridan, author of "A fighter's heart: one man's journey into the world of fighting." A British writer tells us about his ignominious initiation to the world of street fighting (which involved a girl, of course) and a scientist tells us why aggression feels good.

*** Earthbeat ***

Earthbeat this week will be a special documentary-type programme telling the little publicised story of one of Myanmar's greatest tragedies - the unchecked and largely untreated problem of HIV/AIDS. Today there are 80,000 people in the country who need anti-retroviral treatment - just over 10 percent of them are getting it. The rest will die in the next couple of years.

In the north where jade mines, rampant IV drug use and proximity to China have provided a fatal combination, a local aid worker estimates that one in three households have been affected by AIDS.

Earthbeat has on the ground interviews with health workers and patients in Myanmar.
